A Momentary Relapse of Reason: Lacan and the Critique of Freudian Metapsychology?

During Lacan’s second seminar, a whole section is dedicated to the study of Freudian metapsychology. The section entitled ‘Freudian schemata of the Psychic Apparatus’ compels us to perform an in-depth research concerning Freudian metapsychology throughout this seminar and its application nowadays. Although the proposition of the Freudian ego as an object best to be situated under an imaginary register is correct, I will argue from a metapsychological perspective that the Freudian Ich entails yet another possible parallax in terms of technique and theorization. In addition, by studying the example of an ever-increasing leverage of AI over subjectivity, it is my argumentation that post-Freudian metapsychology can give us newer insights as to the jeopardizing claims of subjectivity, laughter, and the erasure of the death drive.
